The Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts (OCCA) is a multi-disciplinary arts organization, founded in 1995. OCCA has produced many programs and special events that are community-inspired and community-driven and has been a leader in arts advocacy for artists and arts organizations for thirty years. OCCA has been instrumental in bringing bilingual literary arts to the forefront with their Voces Writer's Workshops & Chapbook Publishing, offering bilingual writer's workshops and publishing an annual chapbook of new works. Voces recently expanded their repertoire to include traditional Day of the Dead Calaveras literarias / satirical skull poems. OCCA also launched the Vocecitas - Little Voices Lit Youth Program, which focuses on reading, writing, and chapito/zine-making. The participants select books to read and discuss literary themes with a teacher guiding them using TEKS standards. The student will write a story, and finally, create a chapito /zine. Students will keep the books and zines for sharing with family and growing their home library. For more information visit www.oakcliffart.org.
