Metrocare, Mental Health & Disability Provider

A nonprofit organization

For almost six decades, Metrocare has been at the forefront of accessible, high-quality mental health and intellectual developmental disability (IDD) services in Dallas. As the Community Mental Health and Developmental Disability Center for Dallas County, Metrocare delivers a broad range of care for over 51,000 people each year, including 13,000 children and teens.

Metrocare provides IDD services such as day habilitation, supported employment, and more. We coordinate all publicly funded IDD programs as Dallas County’s Local Intellectual Developmental Disability Authority. Our programs also include two Centers for Children with Autism.

We provide services in the areas of:

  • mental health care
  • intellectual and developmental disability
  • veteran and military family mental health care
  • mental health crisis intervention
  • supportive social services like care coordination and referrals
  • medication management and pharmacies
  • housing and homelessness
  • substance use disorders
  • specialized clinical and research training for mental health professionals

Texas is ranked last in the country for access to mental health care according to a 2024 report by Mental Health America. Metrocare works to make care accessible and affordable through its 11 clinics, more 20 satellite locations, and mobile crisis services. Through our work to train future mental health professionals and provide community outreach to expand awareness and reduce the stigma of mental illness, Metrocare is actively helping community members find meaningful and satisfying lives every day through almost 3,000 daily clinical encounters.
